For many travellers Europe is the first big destination – and the numbers show it: in the UN Tourism statistics for 2024, France (about 102 million international arrivals), Spain (93.8 million) and Italy (57.7 million) are three European countries among the five most visited in the world.
But statistics are only the beginning. These are the destinations I love to recommend:

Culture in Barcelona and Andalusia, beaches in Mallorca – and mild weather almost all year round on the Canaries.
3. Italy
Rome, Florence, Venice, the Amalfi Coast and the Dolomites: few countries combine art, food and landscape so beautifully.
4. Portugal and Madeira
Lisbon and Porto for city lovers, Madeira for hikes between waterfalls and cliffs.
5. Greece
Island hopping, history and sunshine – about 36 million international guests came to Greece in 2024.
