With 93.8 million international arrivals in 2024, Spain is the second most visited country in the world according to UN Tourism – and for good reason.

Mainland Spain

  • Barcelona: Gaudí’s Sagrada Família, beach and old town in one city.
  • Andalusia: the Alhambra in Granada, Seville and the Mezquita of Córdoba.
  • Madrid: art at the Prado and long evenings in tapas bars.
  • Balearic Islands: Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza for beach holidays.

The Canary Islands

The Canaries lie in the Atlantic off the coast of Africa and belong to Spain. Thanks to their mild climate they are called the “islands of eternal spring” – ideal in winter too.

  • Tenerife: at 3,715 m, Mount Teide is Spain’s highest mountain.
  • Gran Canaria: the dunes of Maspalomas.
  • Lanzarote: volcanic landscapes and the art of César Manrique.
  • Fuerteventura: long sandy beaches, perfect for wind- and kitesurfers.
  • La Palma: green nature and one of the clearest night skies in Europe.

Best time to travel

Spring and autumn are ideal for the mainland; summer gets very hot in Andalusia. The Canaries are a good choice all year round.
